Aqua Universalis
Fresh · EDP · 2013 · Francis Kurkdjian
Expensive "clean after a shower": citrus, lily, musk. A background scent with a polite profile. Sheer, well mannered, easy to wear anywhere. You pay a lot for that cleanliness. The materials still show.
Context
Aqua Universalis is MFK’s expensive idea of clean. Lily, citrus, and musk, with none of the amber weight. It is a full light floral-citrus composition, in a different lane from the molecule-water style of Escentric Molecules. For newcomers it is the easiest MFK to wear.
On skin
The opening is fresh citrus and lily, clean and calm. The base is musk and a light wood. Longevity is weak, 4 to 6 hours on skin, and projection stays close. It lives longer in heat. In the cold it fades faster. It works as a background.
Alternatives
Cheaper clean freshness: Byredo Blanche, Diptyque Eau Rose (a different profile, still light), Phlur Missing. Aqua Universalis beats mass-market fresh scents on material quality and loses on value. If longevity is the doubt, a decant will settle it. The hours here are short.
Verdict
A good expensive neutral, with a clear premium for “clean”. Wear a decant before you decide whether this kind of transparency is worth €210 and up. Skip it if you need a scent that lasts.

Before a bottle
Ask for 2 to 10 ml. Wear it three times on your own skin. A blotter will not tell you what hour four smells like.
