When Santal 33
You want presence and instant recognition. City clothes, creative work, evening. You can live with smelling like everyone in a specialty coffee shop. That brings compliments. It also means the scent is common.
When Tam Dao
You want an expensive neutral for people who already know sandalwood. Office, a close radius, any season. It does not project, and it does not pull attention from across a room. If you are tired of loud niche, this is the rest.
Price and availability in the CIS
Santal 33 is about €290 to €370, and it is widely faked (top three in Russia). Tam Dao is about €170 to €230, with fewer fakes. On value Tam Dao is easier to justify. Longevity is weak, so you respray.
Verdict
Two different jobs. Santal 33 is character. Tam Dao is background. One budget and a daily you can wear anywhere points to Tam Dao. Presence, plus a tolerance for fake risk, points to Santal 33, and only through a decant and a batch check.
