Tom Ford
Tobacco Vanille
Gourmand · EDP · 2007 · Olivier Gillotin
A winter gourmand monster: tobacco, vanilla, dried fruit, cacao. Warm, sweet, and audible from metres away. Unbearable in heat. In the cold it is a comfortable bomb. The price per millilitre is hard to justify. The same lane has cheaper, more interesting options.
Context
Tobacco Vanille is one of the most discussed niche gourmands. The tobacco is dried and sweet, closer to a pouch than a pipe. Vanilla leads. Dried fruit and cacao add a dark sugar. It wears like a blanket.
On skin
The opening is sharp sweetness and tobacco, and it can feel cloying. After 30 minutes it softens into warm tobacco and vanilla. Longevity is excellent, 8 to 10 hours and often longer. Projection is strong for the first 2 to 3 hours. On clothes it lasts for days. In heat it becomes sticky sugar. Keep it for cold weather.
Alternatives
For warm tobacco and vanilla at a lower price: Nishane Sultan Vetiver (a different accent, still warm) and Parfums de Marly Herod (tobacco and spice, easier to buy). If the goal is vanilla sweetness specifically, MFK Baccarat Rouge 540 is more interesting in materials. Tobacco Vanille makes sense when you want the Tom Ford name and will pay for the brand.
Verdict
A good winter scent, with a serious premium per millilitre. A decant is required. On someone else’s skin the sweetness often splits the room. Skip it if you live in a warm climate year round.

Before a bottle
Ask for 2 to 10 ml. Wear it three times on your own skin. A blotter will not tell you what hour four smells like.
